Our Optometry Services

Dr. Rothman’s services include comprehensive eye exams, evaluating glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and many other ocular pathologies. Another major focus of his practice involves custom and/or complicated contact lens fits including orthokeratology, soft lenses for everyday wear, astigmatism, and bifocal fits. All these options become important when creating solutions for people when at the office, athletes looking for peak performance, or heavy computer users.

Establishing healthy eyes and great vision starts as a child. Early detection of strabismus (eye turn), amblyopia (lazy eye), and binocular vision (3-D) is key to correcting and resolving these issues.

The Eye Exam

Image

Doctors of Optometry play an essential and ongoing role in ensuring the health of you and your family. We diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases and disorders affecting the eyes and the visual system. We also assist in identifying general health conditions that are often first detected through an eye exam, provide referrals to specialists, and help manage post eye-surgery health. From infants to grade-schoolers through to grandparents, Doctors of Optometry not only ensure quality of vision and eye health, but quality of life.

As Doctors of Optometry, we evaluate many factors that can affect your vision and eye health. We review your case history, conduct an external and internal exam of your eyes, and measure vision qualities, such as eye movements and coordination, sharpness of vision and peripheral vision. We also evaluate your ability to adjust focus, and to see colour and depth normally. If we detect problems, we may recommend glasses, contact lenses, eye exercises, medication, or surgery.

Here at Little Eye Shop Optometry, comprehensive full eye exams involve testing for a glasses prescription, glaucoma testing, cataract evaluation, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, binocular vision assessment, and much more. We also perform a full dry eye work-up to diagnose and take control of pesky irritations, discomfort, and redness.

Many serious eye conditions don’t have obvious symptoms. Some eye diseases only show symptoms when the condition is advanced and difficult, or even impossible, to treat. A comprehensive eye exam provides the full assurance of vision and eye health that a simple sight test or a school vision screening cannot.

Your vision is priceless. Comprehensive eye exams by a Doctor of Optometry not only ensure good vision and eye health, but peace of mind.

Contact Lenses

Image

Eyes come in all different shapes and sizes, so finding a contact lens that fits properly and offers great vision a challenge. Every contact lens fit starts with mapping the surface of the cornea, the front structure of the eye. This allows an accurate assessment of the curvature and shape of the cornea. Then, Dr. Rothman will measure the correct prescription, evaluate the health of the cornea, and discuss contact lens options with you.

One of the major considerations when selecting the correct contact lens is lifestyle, expectations, and visual demands.

There are many contact lens options for almost everyone out there. Contact lenses for:

  • Nearsightedness
  • Farsightedness
  • Progressive/Bifocal contact lenses
  • Monovision
  • Gas-permeable contact lenses
  • Orthokeratology (aka Dream Lenses/corneal refractive therapy, etc.)
  • Keratoconus

Orthokeratology

Image

Orthokeratology is the science of correcting your refractive error while you sleep so that you don’t need your glasses for the next day. These contact lenses are worn overnight and removed the next morning, providing clear vision for the rest of the day. It’s a safe alternative to conventional contact lenses, LASIK, and glasses.

Is Ortho-k right for you?

  • Do you wear glasses or contact lenses for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism?
  • Are you interested in LASIK but not quite ready?
  • Are you unable to wear contacts due to allergies or other sensitivities?
  • Are you tired of getting debris getting under gas permeable lenses?
  • Do you feel contacts inhibit your ability to enjoy sports, working out, hiking, swimming, or skiing?
  • Do your child’s eyes require a stronger eyeglass prescription every year?
  • Does your child need contacts but has trouble wearing or caring for them?
  • Do you want to wake up during the night and see?

Latisse® Eyelash Enhancement

Image

For people who don’t grow enough eyelashes, a condition called hypotrichosis, or those who experience a thinning of their lashes as a result of certain conditions, hormonal changes, or for unknown reasons, there’s new hope for eyelash growth.

Whether your interest is aesthetic or functional, there is a safe and effective method to successfully restore volume to thinning eyelashes. Latisse® has been shown to increase lash length, thickness and darkness through its active ingredient, bimatoprost. It works by lengthening the growth phase in the hair development cycle, resulting in longer, thicker lashes, while stimulating pigment formation in the hair follicles to darken them in as little as eight weeks. In most cases, full results can be achieved in 16 weeks.

We are pleased to offer this treatment to our patients at Little Eye Shop Optometry.
