Why You Need an Occupational Eye Exam
This type of exam is different from a regular eye exam as it focuses on how your vision affects your ability to do your job. During an occupational eye exam, your doctor will ask about the type of work you do and how often you use your eyesight for tasks such as reading or using a computer. The doctor will also test your visual acuity, depth perception, and color vision.
When to Get an Occupational Eye Exam
You should get an occupational eye exam at least once every two years, or at whatever interval your job requires one. However, if you have a history of vision problems or are experiencing symptoms such as eye fatigue or headaches, maybe it’s time to get one now.
If you wear contact lenses or glasses, it's important to ensure that your prescription is up-to-date so there are no preventable errors or accidents.
What to Expect During an Occupational Eye Exam
The doctor will ask about your medical history and symptoms during an occupational eye exam. The doctor will then perform a series of tests to assess your vision. These tests may include reading an eye chart, using a computerized vision testing system, or looking at objects through a magnifying glass. After the tests are complete, the doctor will discuss the results with you and make recommendations for treatment if necessary.
